Love is in the air - part 2

Two weeks ago I started a new series. I meant to continue last week, but I apologize. Life got in the way. To be honest, the last few weeks have been incredibly difficult. But God is good, and He’s working on me. In any case, I’m back this week, and excited to share with you more of my story with my wonderful husband!

It was mid January. It was cold and dark. We walked into Main Event. I could barely contain myself. My excitement was bubbling over, I’m sure. There they were, standing there, waiting. Joe didn’t even see them at first. The surprise on his face slowly bubbled over into expressions of recognition of all his close friends and realization that they were there for him.

Joe and I had been dating for a little over a month, and it was his birthday. I wanted to do something extra special for him, so I got in contact with a friend of his in the KC area. She helped me put together a surprise party with all of Joe’s friends. His surprise was so worth it. Looking back, he probably hated a night all about him like that… as I said last week, he’s a huge introvert. Nowadays, I probably wouldn’t do something like that. But young love knows no bounds, and I wanted to do something special and extravagant. It was awesome. And so worth it.

We ended up playing numerous rounds of laser tag that night. I remember one moment vividly. I was never very good at games like that, but have always been very competitive. At one point, I got shot. I was mad, only to find out that Joe was the one that shot me. (Just made me more mad to be honest!) He ran up to me, kissed me on the forehead, and ran off smiling. What a memory. What a guy.

Joe and I spent that weekend celebrating him. It was wonderful. I was able to surprise him a second time, this time with Chiefs playoff tickets. I was so excited. I knew how much of a Chiefs fan he was. I actually hid them up the sleeve of my coat jacket, gave him the first part of his gift, and then made some awesome and cheesy joke about how I had something else up my sleeve, grabbing the tickets. Joe, of course, smiled and didn’t say much. Having not known him for very long, I thought he didn’t care. He later told me he was screaming like a little girl on the inside because he was so excited. We’re working on him sharing and showing his emotions more. It’s a process!

As we spent more time together, I knew more and more that this was the man with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my days. He was kind, caring, funny (don’t tell him I said that), supportive, sweet, and most importantly, his love for Jesus was so obvious. He is truly incredible, and I am so thankful that God blessed me with him. Stay tuned for more of our story next week!
