It all started with a couple words: Barbie hands.
Alison's senior session was filled with laughter, golden light, and those small, in-between moments that make senior photos feel like YOU instead of stiff, posed, and unnatural. From the moment we started, the session was easy and fun. Alison was so excited to be there, and it didn't take much to bring out her joyful energy in front of the camera.
One thing I watch for in every session is stiff hands. When seniors get in front of the camera, it's a natural reaction to tense up. We're not used to being the center of attention or thinking about every little detail (and I tell my clients they don't need to, because that's my job!).
While we were out on one of the bridges, I noticed Alison's hands were a bit stiff, so I gently coached her into softening them using those two words: Barbie hands. I let her know we don't like Barbie hands here. Cue the laughter–and my golden ticket for the rest of her session.
From that moment on, any time Alison started to get stiff or get too caught up in "posing," all I had to do was say "Barbie hands!" She would laugh, I would laugh, and the photos would be beautiful. One of my favorite parts of senior photography is helping seniors show off their personality. Alison's personality shines, and that shows in her final gallery.
You can see the results for yourself: a gorgeous girl, a stunning location, and beautiful golden light.
Alison, it was such an honor to capture this season of your life. You are so fun and funny and I am so excited for you to look back on these images for years to come.
