Life never goes quite the way we plan it, huh? If I had it my way, I'd be in Montana right now with our church mission team. God had other plans this week, and while I don't totally understand it, I'm trying to make the best of my extra time here at home. We were scheduled to leave Saturday evening and found out early Saturday afternoon that our flights to Bozeman had been cancelled. Our team, originally scheduled for the same flight out, was rebooked to various Sunday flights instead. Three of our team members left early Sunday morning, got stuck overnight in Las Vegas, flew out to LA, flew back to KC, flew to Denver, then finally made it to Bozeman. Two other team members got stuck in Denver overnight, one ultimately making it to Bozeman and one coming back home to KC. I never even left the KC airport. My Sunday flight ended up getting rebooked to Tuesday and with all the struggles, I wasn't sure I'd actually make it out there. Seeing as I was flying alone, and pregnant, my husband and I both decided perhaps it was better for me just to stay home at that point. No sense in getting stranded and having to pay for a hotel on top of the other expenses I would've had this week flying out of state. All of that to say, it was a fiasco. Our 11 person team dwindled, and only four made it out to Bozeman for the week. To say I am disappointed I am not there with them is an understatement... being a planner, it's especially hard for me when big plans like that fall apart at the last minute. This week has been hard.

So, I've been nursery prepping this week instead. My schedule is pretty clear since I wasn't supposed to be here, which has given me a lot of time to do other things (like mull over my feelings, and then do some manual labor to feel better lol). I started on the nursery a few weeks ago. We were blessed to have been gifted most of our furniture for our nursery. We already had a dresser that used to belong to my beloved grandpa and I am so excited to have that for little miss Zoe when she comes. In addition, we had amazing neighbors gift us a crib they no longer needed, incredible friends from church who gave us a changing table, and my awesome friend Sarah found a rocking chair for us at a garage sale and brought it over. It's truly incredible! Zoe is already so loved and cared for. But, being my artsy yet OCD self, I wanted all the furniture to match. Thus began my latest project(s).

I started with the nursery itself. The walls and ceiling took me a couple of days to paint, and I absolutely love how it turned out. Then I started in on the furniture. The changing table was the first project, then the crib. Sanding took significantly less time than I anticipated, and I knocked the changing table out in about a week. I anticipated each piece to take me two weeks. I ended up being lazy and taking a week off after I finished the nursery walls and the changing table. Then I worked through the crib, which was... tedious. Sanding was exhausting, but went fairly quickly. Painting, however... took ages. The crib was originally stained pretty dark, and covering that with white paint took quite a few coats. But I just love how it turned out. I think it took 8 or 9 days to do it. Today, I started in on the rocking chair. I anticipated the sanding to take much longer, but it only took me a few hours to knock it out. I started on my first coat of paint, too! The last piece of the puzzle is the dresser (which will probably feel like a cakewalk after that crib and rocking chair!). It's all coming together so beautifully, and I can't wait to see it all finished. I'm not sure if this is considered nesting or not... but it's been fun to watch my vision come to life.
